Supermileage
Cal Poly Supermileage is a team of students dedicated to designing, engineering, and manufacturing high efficiency vehicles. We compete in the annual Shell Eco-Marathon Americas competition. Our current prototype car, the Black Widow, achieved 2752.3 miles per gallon at the 2008 Eco-Marathon. We also have a recently completed Urban Concept vehicle, Capax, which placed 3rd in last year’s competition with 425 miles per gallon. We have twelve members from a variety of majors and backgrounds and welcome anyone who wants to join, regardless of major or skillset.
This coming year the team plans to build a new prototype vehicle and improve on the current urban concept vehicle. The new prototype vehicle begins from scratch and will go through a complete design process. During the past few months, team members have been designing new farings to begin aero testing as the school year begins. Additional component design and manufacturing will take place as well throughout the following months. The goals for this next year include placing a new engine in Capax, designing and building the new prototype vehicle, and breaking the 3,000 mpg for prototype and 600 mpg for urban concept.
