Outstanding ME Students Recognized
Lisa Dakis shines as an example of the amazing potential of Cal Poly mechanical engineers. An active member of the Society of Women Engineers since her freshman year, she served as a SWE officer for three years and became the club’s president in 2006-07. This dedication and leadership led her to receive the Outstanding Student Involvement award. And as the Region B Collegiate Newsletter Editor, Lisa won the club a national award for the best collegiate newsletter in the nation.
Lisa was also named as one of the five Outstanding Women in Engineering and Technology in front of a packed house of her peers and industry representatives. Although this is her final year at Cal Poly, she continues to demonstrate her leadership abilities and her commitment to mechanical engineering. She serves as the president of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers and is secretary for the Mechanical Engineering Student Fee Allocation Committee.
Sevan Oungoulian was recognized by the ME Department for Graduate Level Academic Excellence.
Kyle Cormany was named the College of Engineering’s Outstanding Senior for Academic Excellence. Kyle maintained a cumulative GPA of 4.0 as an undergraduate student in mechanical engineering, minored in Math and helped others learn calculus as a math workshop facilitator for two years. Kyle is currently working as a satellite antenna designer for Space Systems Loral in Palo Alto, CA, and plans to pursue a Mechanical Engineering Master's Degree at Stanford in the future.
Jennifer Roecks received an award for Contributions to the Objectives and Public Image of the University.
Andrew Tranovich received the Service to the Community award for his hard work organizing and executing the production of the 2006 American Society of Mechanical Engineers Human Powered Vehicle Competition at the Cal Poly campus.
