ME Professor Lou Rosenberg Honored
As the only Cal Poly faculty member appointed as a professor in two different colleges, Lou Rosenberg stands out among the County's professional elite. He serves as the Cotchett Endowed Professor of Educational Technology with a joint appointment in the College of Education and the College of Engineering. His teaching and scholarly work focuses on getting engineers and educators to work together to develop innovative technologies and exhibits to support K-12 education.
Rosenberg is known locally for his involvement in interactive museum exhibits. He has recently launched the Center for Exhibit Design, in which Cal Poly students from engineering and education work to design, build, and deploy innovative educational museum exhibits.
Currently, Rosenberg's students are developing high-tech exhibits for the San Luis Obispo Children's Museum, the Port San Luis Marine Institute, and the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in Los Angeles. Their projects include a "plankton view," "wave generation pool," and "robotic sea camera."
Rosenberg's enthusiasm for museums that spark discovery and learning isn't limited to his role as a teacher. He also pledged $60,000 to the San Luis Obispo Children's Museum to fund construction of a trolly replica in the interactive exhibit "Merchantville."
Rosenberg received his doctoral degree from Stanford University and founded Microscribe and Immersion, Bay Area companies that develop technologies used in animated films and video games. He is one of the youngest Americans to be awarded more than 100 patents from the U.S. patent office.
