SAE Student Club Wins Award
CPSAE received the award for exemplary performance in the areas of technical meetings, projects, membership continuity, and recruitment. The award was established to encourage SAE Collegiate Branches to improve their technical programs and activities, increase the value of SAE student membership, and to increase the stature of the individual Collegiate Branch on campus and in the community.
Cal Poly's SAE boasts a Class 1 membership with about 100 student members and competes in all three major SAE events. They field teams for the "Baja," "Formula," and "Super Mileage" competitions. CPSAE finished 6th in the Super Mileage competition of 2006 beating out UC Berkeley and UCLA.
The Cal Poly team rose to the Super Mileage challenge by designing and building a 95 lb. car with a top speed of 42 mph that obtained a staggering 861 miles per gallon.
CPSAE received a plaque and cash prize of $500 from SAE International. They will be honored at the SAE 2007 World Congress & Exhibition in Detroit on April 17, 2007.
