The goal of the Human Powered Vehicle Team (HPV) is to produce a recumbent bicycle which is as fast, safe, and efficient as possible. In years past, Cal Poly entered into ASME-sponsored competitions, placing highly and performing well year after year.
This year, however, the HPV team is moving away from the collegiate field and towards a more professional competition: the World Human Powered Speed Competition at Battle Mountain, Nevada. They are designing for pure speed. To this end, they have restructured the club organization for greater flexibility, cohesion, and efficiency. With all of the high-achieving, strongly driven club members and the help of faculty and sponsors, Cal Poly’s HPV club aims to best the Cal Poly bicycle speed record and hit sixty miles per hour in Summer 2019.
